Atual campeão brasileiro da categoria e grande favorito, o Corinthians estreia nesta quinta-feira na Copa Libertadores feminina diante do Deportivo Cali-COL. A partida ocorre no Estádio Chillogallo, em Quito, no Equador, a partir das 19h15 (de Brasília).
Além disso, o Timão também tem o posto de atual campeão do torneio continental. Em novembro do ano passado, a equipe alvinegra superou o Santa Fe por 2 a 0 para levar o troféu. Ao todo, o clube paulista possui três títulos do torneio.

O confronto será o primeiro do Grupo A desta edição da Libertadores. Além de Corinthians e Deportivo Cali, a chave formada por Always Ready-BOL e Olimpia-PAR. Coincidentemente, as equipes colombiana e boliviana também foram adversárias do Timão na fase de grupos da Libertadores masculina deste ano.
Corinthians chega após título e Paulistão instável
Apesar do título brasileiro, conquistado no fim de setembro, após superar o Internacional por 4 a 1 na segunda partida, na Neo Química Arena, o Corinthians faz campanha instável no Paulistão. Isso porque precisou utilizar um time misto pelo foco claro no nacional.
Assim, na competição estadual, o Timão figura na sexta colocação, com 12 pontos somados após sete partidas. Desa forma, está fora da zona de classificação para as semifinais – está a quatro pontos do quarto colocado Palmeiras, primeira equipe no G4.
