Christian Streich tem uma série de lesões persistentes nesta partida, mas a mais recente delas é a sofrida por Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, que perdeu os dois últimos jogos com um problema muscular.

O ganês estava em forma, tendo marcado em três partidas consecutivas antes de sua lesão o afastar da partida da Liga Europa com o Nantes, e ele continua fora.

O internacional húngaro Roland Sallai também vai ficar de fora depois de fracturar a órbita ocular frente ao Bayer Leverkusen no início de Setembro, mas a maioria das lesões do Freiburg vêm da defesa.

Manuel Gulde, Jonathan Schmid e Kimberly Ezekwem estão todos ausentes na defesa, o que reduz bastante as opções de rotação disponíveis para Streich.

Lukas Kubler pode ser o lateral direito, já que todas as suas aparições nesta temporada aconteceram nas copas até agora, e ele começou na primeira rodada antes de sair lesionado no início.

Schulz não fez muitas mudanças no time de St Pauli quando enfrentou Straelen na primeira rodada, então ele deve ir com um time o mais forte possível aqui e evitar qualquer rotação pesada, apesar de ser um jogo da copa.

Após a vitória por 3 a 0 no fim de semana, seria uma surpresa ver qualquer mudança na equipe que não fosse de precaução ou de descanso.

David Nemeth estará indisponível até novembro na defesa, depois que o austríaco foi substituído com um problema na virilha nos primeiros 10 minutos contra o Eintracht Braunschweig há duas semanas, então Adam Dzwigala deve manter seu lugar na defesa de St Pauli.

Manolis Saliakas será banido depois de ter sido expulso contra Straelen, com suspensões aplicadas apenas à competição específica em que aconteceram, então Luca-Milan Zander pode começar a temporada como lateral-direito.

Franz Roggow e Christopher Avevor são as únicas outras ausências do St Pauli por lesão, já que este último continua a recuperar de uma fractura no tornozelo.
